Spring term so far in Class 2
9 February 2018
It has been a short half term, but a busy one!
This half term we started our science Unit - Rocks. We have been finding out about different kinds of rocks - igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. We have been studying volcanoes with some help from Lancaster University Science Hunters and looking at fossils, how they are formed and drawing them in art. We had a super science day where we made 3d cross-section volcanoes, mixed ingredients to make an erupting volcano and made edible rocks!
Our Geography work has been linked to settlements and children have been finding different towns and cities and counties in England. They have looked at the features that a settlement needs for food, water, supplies and safety and have designed their own settlements.
In English we have continued to read Wonder and we had a visit to the theatre to watch David Walliam's Awful Auntie. We have been working really hard to improve our punctuation and presentation in writing too!
We finished off our printing in the style of William Morris in art.
In Music children have been working with Mrs Gaughan to learn the glockenspiel and in Spanish learning numbers and talking about our families.
Our PE this half term has been gymnastics. Children have been working with Mr Baker on creating balances with partners and putting together simple routines with the different balances they have learned.
We have had visits to Rossall School on a Code Breaking Challenge and to Garstang Community Academy for quick sticks hockey coaching.
We have had visitors in school from the NSPCC to talk about keeping safe and a Zumba taster session ready for our new club next half term!
We took part in the Big Birdwatch, made bird feeders for the plantation and decorated the trees with our drawings of birds to earn points towards our platinum Green Tree Award and the pond was filled with over 200 new fish too!
