School Council

Every child at Winmarleigh is a member of our School Council.

Each year children prepare speeches and vote to elect a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.

This year's Chairperson is Laura and the Vice Chairperson is Jaydon.

The photographs below show some of the most recent things the Council have planned, organised or purchased with funds they have raised.

Each year the children have a project that they decide on at the start of the year. Previous projects include rebuilding and developing the pond outdoor area of school. For this task they were supported by Mrs Darling who secured funding, and by the Wyre Countryside Ranger - Greg Robinson -who was very helpful and arranged for all the hard work to be carried out by his team of volunteers!

Children also designed and comissioned a squirrel bench to be made for the front of school.

Last year's project was to improve the playground. Children held fundraising activities and purchased benches, chalk boards and new friendship signs for the playground. They also commissioned Helen Yates, a local artist, to work with them in creating a new mural for the playground. The school council worked with Helen to produce a fantastic new mural with all of their ideas included.

Fundraising events include a vegetable stall where children sold the vegetables they grew in the school garden, regular cake sales and evemts linked to large fundraising events like Sport Relief and Children in Need.
