Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
For a small number of children with more complex or long-term special educational needs, an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment may be appropriate.
This is a statutory assessment carried out by Lancashire County Council to determine whether a child requires an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Parents and carers have the right to request an EHC needs assessment directly. The school can also make a request, working in partnership with families and relevant professionals.
Where a child has an EHCP, the school will ensure that the special educational provision specified in the plan is delivered, working with the Local Authority and other professionals as appropriate.
EHCPs are formally reviewed at least annually, with the child and their family involved throughout the process.
