What should I expect if my child is placed on the SEND Register?

At Winmarleigh Church of England Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to Enjoy, Believe and Achieve. If your child is placed on our SEND Register, we will work closely with you to ensure they receive the right support to meet their individual needs and make progress.

School Support Plans

When a child is identified as having special educational needs and requires additional support, a School Support Plan will be put in place.

This plan will clearly outline:

  • Your child's strengths and areas of need.

  • Any barriers to learning they may be experiencing.

  • Specific, achievable targets for your child to work towards.

  • The support, strategies and interventions that will be provided.

  • How progress will be measured and reviewed.

School Support Plans follow our Assess, Plan, Do, Review graduated approach and are reviewed at least three times a year (termly).

Parents and carers will be invited to contribute to these reviews alongside the class teacher and, where appropriate, our SENDCo. We also encourage children to share their views about their learning and the support they receive.

Following each review, targets and provision may be adapted to ensure that support continues to meet your child's needs.

Children with More Complex Needs

Some children may have more complex or persistent needs and require a greater level of personalised support.

In these circumstances, our SENDCo and Headteacher will work closely with class teachers, parents and carers, and relevant external professionals to develop a fuller understanding of the child's needs.

This may involve additional assessments, more personalised interventions or advice from professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists or specialist teachers.

All relevant information, recommendations and agreed strategies will be reflected in the child's School Support Plan and reviewed regularly.

We believe that working together and sharing information is essential to ensuring that every child receives consistent and effective support.
